ABOUT MYSELF

My name is Custodia Kong de Sousa, usually known as Todi Kong de Sousa. I am Portuguese, born in Mozambique, and I have been living in Macau, China, since 1986.

My liking for art and aesthetic, and the craving to express the flow of my imagination started at a very early age. I was about six when I used to spend my days drawing. However, I graduated in Civil Engineering and during more than 20 years life created a gap between myself and art. The attraction for aesthetic remained, though. Therefore, I attended some painting courses and later I decided to try to sculpt by myself.
I started by making experiments with several kind of materials, the process flowed and the ideas materialized smoothly. The exploration of materials, shapes and techniques by myself, brings me a higher level of excitement and interest. Each work is a new process and a new adventure.

Steel structure, epoxy sculpting material, fabric, fabric hardener and stainless steel mesh are the main materials I use.
I explore textures by mixing materials and creating compositions. Fabrics inspire me for their malleability and lightness during the process of the work and at the end they become rigid, like a movement frozen in time. My focus is to make sculptures that represent the human life, in particular the emotional side of it.  I believe emotions are the most important aspect of our lives.
